Auction for Vicki

Guys, I want to get a little serious here for a moment.

I recently found out that an amazing member of the small shop community, Vicki, suffered a lift-threatening stoke and brain aneurysm days after bringing home her preemie from the NICU. Vicki has since been recovering from emergency brain surgery, but after a short move to a rehab facility she was taken back to the hospital with pneumonia.

The amazing creative behind Wolfe & Scamp, Hänni, has set up some auctions to raise money to help Vicki and her family with expenses during all of this. 100% of the proceeds goes to help cover medical expenses + support the family during her long road to recovery.

I’ve gotten a sneak peek at some of the goodies up for auction from some amazing handcrafted shops, and there are a few things I have my eye on – like the small Mon-stor from Lu & Ed, which would make some great yarn or Poppet storage.

I’ve even donated one of my Poppets – Baymax the Robot Nurse – to the list of goodies up for auction.

The 2-day auction starts today at 4pm EST.

Please help spread the word about this auction – which starts in just a few hours – so we can try to raise a whole lot of money to help out Vicki & her family. And while you’re at it, join me in sending her some good vibes & get well wishes! ♥

Meet Little Abe Sapien

Abe Sapien Mini Poppet by Freak + Pocky

If you look in my project bags – or just about any place I craft – chances are you will find a handful of crochet Poppet parts. An arm here. A pair of legs there.

I’m what you would call a serial amigurumist.

That’s gotta be a good thing for any self-proclaimed amigurumi artist, right? For me it is, because I love what I do. And I love it even more when I get custom requests for some of my favorite fandom characters. So, of course, I was giddy when I got the request to make a little friend for the recently adopted little Hellboy.

I love a good Poppet challenge.

To be honest, I originally had no idea how I could turn Abe Sapien into a mini Poppet. But I’ve always like a good challenge when it comes to my crafts – otherwise I wouldn’t have attempted to knit noodles with chopsticks or a tiny scarf with a pair of DS styluses – so I stared at quite a few pictures for quite a few hours wondering how to make this happen.

Fins.

And some zig zags on his head.

And, of course, the one request that it was shirtless Abe with the black pants.

Those were the few simple details I needed to make this chubby chibi Abe come to life! After a quick trip to the yarn store & a day of stitching – voilà, meet little Abe Sapien!

What do you think my next Poppet challenge should be?

With the recent requests for guys with fins & zombies with mohawks, I’m ready for my next Poppet challenge. I’m leaning towards my favorite cyclops from Futurama – but I’m open to suggestions or custom commissions.

Let me know in the comments which of your favorite fandom characters would make a stinkin’ adorable Poppet.
